Playwright Edward Albee (March 12, 1928–September 16, 2016) appeared as a guest speaker in the Drama Division in 1991 and 2008. Juillard presented his plays American Dream in 1977 (directed by Alan Schneider, with Group 7 actors Rebecca Guy, Richard Frank, Laura Hicks, Sarah Felder, and Charles Janasz) and The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? in 2015 (directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch). In recognition of Albee's contributions to American theater, Juilliard awarded him with an honorary doctorate in 2002.
