Robert Ward Will Be Missed

I first knew Robert Ward [the former faculty member and alumnus whose obituary appeared in the May issue of The Journal] when I was a student in his conducting class at Juilliard. I think I learned more about conducting from him than in any of my subsequent training.

When I became conductor of the Greenville (S.C.) Symphony, I kept in touch with him, performing several of his works, having him as a guest conductor and also visiting him in North Carolina. I always considered Bob a friend and one of the nicest people in the music business.

He will be missed.
