Highlights from the Juilliard Timeline

Author

This month, we're highlighting various moments on the Juilliard timeline. The students who blog for the Admissions Office have tips for the more than a thousand fabulous young artists who'll be arriving at Juilliard this month for music and dance auditions and drama callbacks. At another end of the spectrum, we hear from some grads from the past five years about what they're up to these days. (The short answer? A lot!) More broadly we look behind the velvet curtain to find out how the spring dance repertory program comes together  and what several administrators saw when they went to China to check out the progress of Juilliard's forthcoming branch campus there.

Body

We also have the bittersweet task of saying goodbye to some illustrious faculty members in this issue. Margaret Pardee and Rachelle Knapp were institutions for many years. Composer Steven Stucky, his life cut short by brain cancer just a few weeks ago, had only joined our ranks a year and a half ago, but he made an indelible mark on Juilliard—and on contemporary classical music.
