Scoops on Productions; Polisi's News

Author

This year Juilliard is presenting two operas by living composers; the first is this month. Jonathan Dove's Flight was inspired by the true story of an Iranian who lived for years in an airport lounge after losing his identity papers. In other behind-the-scenes looks at upcoming performances, you can find out how Juilliard415's tour with Ton Koopman came about and why N.J.E. is celebrating Sofia Gubaidulina's birthday. Plus check out rehearsal photos of Marisol and ChoreoComp.

Body

As we were putting together this issue we were digesting the news that President Joseph W. Polisi will step down in 2018. Not that the announcement has slowed him down. He moderated an election panel that was far more civilized than the real campaign trail (a low bar, granted) and is teaching his popular American Society and the Arts course this fall. His concept of the artist as citizen can be seen in the tales of this summer's Community Engagement Grantees. And he's presided over a burgeoning staff. In this season of thanks, we'd like to offer our gratitude to him and to our readers. Stay in touch and let us know what you're up to!
