Congratulations on the fantastic improvement on The Juilliard Journal! It really needed improvement and it is a major job. I used to write for a Juilliard paper when I was a student (1953-59). I don’t recall the name although Stretto rings a bell. I also recall there was a clipping service which cut out and sent any article in the U.S.A. in which the name Juilliard was mentioned. —Howard Aibel (B.S. ’58, M.S. ’59, piano; assistant to Rosina Lhévinne 1968-78), founder and president, New York Concert Review, Inc.
A bit of newsletter history. In the 1960s, Kenneth Sarch (B.S. and M.S. ’66, violin) was editor of a Juilliard newsletter—I frankly don’t remember what it was called. He needed help and I assisted with a few articles and interviews at that time. I don’t know when it started. It was hard to get musicians and dancers (there was no Drama Division then) to write for it, so Ken had to do it mostly by himself.

Special thanks to Melody Nishinaga for her piece on Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, although I’m sorry that she did not mention the six-volume complete edition of Jacquet de La Guerre’s works recently published by Broude Bros. Congratulations. I read the March issue with the most joy ever. The color format and the new size and layout make it a whole new reading experience. I used to just read headlines—this issue I used my highlighter on. Many thanks for taking the time and expense to send this to me here in Europe.
