Midsummer Night’s Gala to Raise Scholarship Funds

The words of Shakespeare and the music of Felix Mendelssohn will come together when esteemed Juilliard alumni including conductor Alan Gilbert (Pre-College ’85; MM ’94) and actor Phillipa Soo (Group 41) are joined by Brooklyn Youth Chorus on the stage of the Peter Jay Sharp Theater on April 25 for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, this year’s gala benefit. The performance will be followed by a black-tie dinner on the grand promenade of David Geffen Hall.

Gala chairperson Barbara Fleischman told The Journal that she had been working with the staff and the gala’s 11 vice-chairs to make the evening as “charming and beautiful as possible while raising funds for these amazingly dedicated students.” She added, “I’m so impressed by their passion and desire to hone their talents and take their place in the performing arts world.” All proceeds from the evening will help support Juilliard student scholarships; 90 percent of the school’s student actors, dancers, and musicians need such financial aid to attend.
