Body

We founded a collective called HEWMAN to bring dance to people and venues it hasn't reached before. We're currently creating an installation called This Is Nothing Without You with director Jordan Geiger (Group 41), composer Andrew Funcheon (Pre-College '09; BM '13, MM '15, percussion), and performers including Victoria Bek (BFA '12, dance). —Ingrid Kapteyn, Jason Collins, and James Lindsay Harwell (all BFA '13, dance

Trevor BumgarnerI'm launching the music publishing company Loose Canon this summer with my classmates Louis Cruz, who's now a doctoral candidate, and Nathan Prillaman, who's working for Juilliard's Center for Innovation in the Arts. I'm also the curriculum developer for the Digital Media Academy's summer music programs and I recently did an internship with publisher W.W. Norton. —Trevor Bumgarner (MM '15, composition; photo by Nobel Lakaev)

I played Eddie Carbone in A View From the Bridge at the Gate Theatre, did my first guest star (CBS's Blue Bloods), and my current audiobook projects are Evicted and A Burglar's Guide to the City. Scott Aiello (Group 41; photo by Hannah Sherman)

Angela Contreras-ReyesI'm the assistant double bass with the Mariinsky Orchestra in St. Petersburg. The winter has been very very cold, but at the same time very beautiful, and I'm enjoying my job a lot. —Angela Contreras-Reyes (MM '13, double bass)

Karen CuevaI'm getting a master's in arts in education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and I'm also helping launch an orchestra called the Du Bois Orchestra at Harvard Square, which has a mission of using classical music to spark dialogue on social justice, inclusion, equity, and outreach. —Karen Cueva (BM '13, MM '15, violin; photo by Leiland Charles)

Hannah McDermottIt's invigorating working at Carnegie Hall, where I'm the visitor services coordinator. Every morning I arrive at a work place filled with energetic, intelligent, assiduous individuals committed to the future of the arts. —Hannah McDermott (BM '15, voice; photo by Anne Marie McDermott)

Sammy MillerI'm part of a new podcast exploring the history of American music and my band, Sammy Miller and the Congregation, is the house band. Recently we cut a track for it with Julia Bullock (Artist Diploma '15, opera studies). The members of the band include trumpeter Alphonso Horne (MM '13, jazz studies) and pianist David Linard (MM '15, jazz studies)—and me on drums. —Sammy Miller (MM '14, jazz studies; photo by Lauren Desberg)

Kim Mai NguyenI'm on the staff of MusAid, a nonprofit organization providing instrument donations and workshops in under-resourced countries, and I've helped coordinate projects in Belize, El Salvador, Jamaica, and Bolivia. I've also participated in cultural diplomacy teaching trips to Lebanon and Iraq with the State Department-sponsored organization American Voices. And in August, I'll join the Oregon Symphony as its newest viola section member! —Kim Mai Nguyen (BM '11, MM '13, viola)
